'Superb speaking classes. Fun, interesting, variety. I am much more fluent after just four weeks. I feel more confident to study English at school in France.' (Richard Giraud)

'My Business English tutorials are organised well and I am learning lots of business vocabulary. I am feeling a lot more confident that I can speak and communicate well with international clients when I go home.' (Anna Werner)

'I got IELTS 6.5 and will study at Bournemouth University in September. My tutorials were really great and hard work too. I recommend blt to every IELTS student. Really excellent!' (Akiko Saitou)

'My son is an EAL student at college and receives weekly support with English for his A Levels. He is very happy with the help he gets with essay writing especially, which he struggles with in Economics and Biology.' (Joyce Yeung)

We tutor in the comfort of your home, online (via Skype, Zoom, Teams or FaceTime), or at the home of one of our specialist ESOL/EAL tutors, at a time that is most convenient for you.

We currently tutor in person within a 10 mile radius of Bournemouth town centre, including Christchurch, Parkstone, Poole, Southbourne, Westbourne, Boscombe, Moordown, Winton, Charminster, Ferndown, Wimborne, and Branksome.

We provide bespoke tutorials for students of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and EAL (English as an Additional Language). Our ESOL provision comprises General English, Conversational English, Business English and Cambridge Exam Preparation. Our EAL services provide language support for tutees at school, college or university, whose first language is not English.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

General English

Our General English tutorials aim to improve each tutee's ability to understand and use vocabulary and expressions common to everyday life. In so doing, we aim to develop each tutee's ability to express ideas clearly and with confidence.

Our General English tutorials are offered at Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced levels. Please click here for classifications. We provide a formal assessment for each tutee at the outset, enabling us to allocate each tutee to the appropriate level. Each tutorial follows a negotiated curriculum, tailored to the needs of each tutee.

Conversational English

Our Conversational English tutorials are offered at Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced levels. Please click here for classifications. Our principal objective is to develop fluency, spoken accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations and for a variety of purposes. To this end, we adopt our LinguaAccelerate™ methodology emphasising clarity of expression, as well as the development of vocabulary, idiom and grammatical accuracy. Consistent with our LinguaAccelerate™ methodology, error correction is undertaken through individualised feedback at the end of each spoken activity. Spoken activities include presentations, interviews, discussion (based on a stimulus or stimuli), role plays, and information gap activities. Each tutorial follows a negotiated curriculum, tailored to the needs of each tutee.

Business English

Our Business English tutorials are offered at Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced levels. Please click here for classifications. We tailor our tutorials both to the needs of each tutee and to those of the business, market and industry in which they work.

Our tutorials provide presentation and practice of English as it would be used at our tutees' place of work, including grammar and vocabulary, as well as simulations of meetings, telephone conversations, negotiations and presentations. We aim to help our tutees build their confidence in English both professionally and socially.

Our Business English tutorials have two overriding objectives:

  • To develop our tutees' ability to use English socially and within the context of the business, market and industry in which they work;

  • To enhance our tutees' understanding of generic business terminology in English.

Our Business English tutorials follow a negotiated curriculum, providing for all ages and abilities.

Cambridge Exam Preparation

Our Cambridge Exam Preparation tutorials give learners the increased knowledge, fluency and confidence required to pass Cambridge ESOL examinations.

Our tutorials prepare tutees for the following Cambridge examinations:

Our Cambridge Exam Preparation tutorials provide:

  • Professional exam preparation from experienced Cambridge ESOL tutors and examiners;

  • A comprehensive study programme to take tutees right up to their exam;

  • Extended practice in tackling the different kinds of tasks within each part of the exam;

  • Hints, tips and advice to help tutees develop their exam skills and technique;

  • Regular counselling and feedback tutorials;

  • Authentic practice exams.

Please note that FCE, CAE and IELTS tutorials can only be attended by tutees above the age of 16.

EAL (English as an Additional Language)

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

We work alongside schools, colleges and universities to help EAL learners access curricula and achieve their potential. Our EAL tutors work with children and young adult learners at all stages of their English language development, from those who are learning English for the first time to those who have been using English for many years, but still require support to develop their higher order language skills.

Our EAL support services comprise the following:

  • Support to help tutees access, process, consolidate and develop English language pertinent to the curriculum (or curricula) studied at the school, college, or university in which they are learning. Please note that our EAL tutors provide support for curricula followed in the state sector (National Curriculum) and independent school sector;

  • Support to help tutees develop Academic Writing skills. We guide EAL tutees through the academic writing process, developing their ability to communicate ideas accurately and fluently and to research effectively. We help tutees interpret the task (or question), plan, structure, edit, proofread, and apply feedback. We provide support with class essays (including creative writing), exam essays, experimental reports, scientific essays, dissertations, and academic articles;

  • Support to help tutees develop the study skills required to enhance self-confidence, optimise academic performance and learn effectively at school, college or university. Please click here for more information;
